LAVA, LAVA GRANULATE, LAVA SUBSTRATE

Our lava comes from the Eifel north of Koblenz/Rhine. It is a volcanic product and is mined and broken in open-cast mines. We screen or refine this material into various grain sizes and offer it as substrate, granulate or mulch.

Besides the addition to substrates, it is mainly used in road construction. Furthermore, it is used as drainage for roof substrates, filler for construction space fillings, gritting material, mulch layer, soil conditioner, etc.

We offer this mulch in the colours anthracite and red-brown, especially for beds or road construction. We also provide pure granulate, e.g. as natural gritting material.

Lavamulch is best suited for garden plants. As a planting base, it can be used for all plants. The material is suitable for roses, boxwood or perennials, for vegetable and flower beds, but also cacti or other succulents. In case you want to redesign the garden later, you can undermine it. This way, it is no longer visible and improves the soil structure.

The product is suitable for a permanent mulch layer. This way the material does not disappear within 2-3 years as with bark mulch. Also, it provides a porous soil structure in which waterlogging moisture has no chance. On the other hand, the material ensures a constant humidity and temperature in the soil. Since the mulch warms up well during the day and gives off the heat again at night, the warming of the land is accelerated in spring and the gardening season can begin earlier.

Lavamulch prevents soil erosion due to heavy thunderstorms: the material acts as a drainage layer in the soil and ensures that water is quickly drained away. It also prevents long-term waterlogging.

Lava Granulate | Winter Litter & Plant Granulate

Our granulate can be used in many ways, e.g. as winter litter/grit/gritting material or as plant granulate.

In winter, the question of the right grit arises. Homeowners and tenants must ensure that nobody falls and gets injured on footpaths and access roads.

Salt is already prohibited in many communities, as salt damages the environment. For example, the nearby nature, especially trees, is permanently damaged. Salt also sticks to shoes and causes white salt stains and damage to the home. Salt is also a problem for animals, especially dogs and cats.

Grit as winter litter is also only a limited alternative to salt, as due to its hardness grit quickly causes scratches and damage in the entrance area, on typical natural stone floors, up to escalators or elevators.

Our natural granulate is based exclusively on lava, enables a safe grip on ice and snow and does not require salt or other thawing agents. Therefore it is particularly environmentally friendly. Our granulate is a natural, mineral grit of volcanic origin with low hardness.

Our granulate is also suitable as plant granulate, or for garden decoration or as litter for a terrarium or aquarium.

The granulate from the volcanic Eifel is a pure natural product, free of pollutants and improves the soil quality decisively. We offer only sieved high-quality granules, where parts, such as sand or other materials have been sieved out. Thereby we achieve a very high quality.

iNTERBiMS granulate has the following properties:

  • suitable as winter litter, grit, gritting material
  • an alternative to road salt, grit
  • extremely slip-resistant / blunts pavements and traffic areas immediately
  • shows immediate effect
  • frost-resistant, not dissolving like salt
  • additionally helps to reduce freezing wetness, because the porous lava granulate absorbs meltwater
  • does not cause rust damage
  • grain size 2 - 4 mm, therefore suitable for paths and roads in snow and ice
  • environmentally friendly
  • plant friendly
  • animal-friendly
  • easy to spread
  • product from the Eifel region

INTERBIMS granulate can be easily used in the garden after use as winter litter and serves to improve the soil. The granulate can be spread on lawns. Our granulate does not contain any additives. Due to its properties, it helps to loosen the garden as well as to store water.

Substrate Mixtures

Lava is the starting point for our substrate mixtures with e.g. pumice and zeolite. Here we provide all common mixtures, which we use in our substrates for plant substrates, as well as for roof greening, lawn substrates and tree substrates.

Product Description

Our material is a natural product that is many millions of years old. This natural building material has the following specific properties:

  • high moisture/water storage capacity
  • Water permeability
  • high stability due to the structure of the rock
  • has a high angle of friction,
  • relatively low weight
  • different colours like grey/brown/red
  • Suitability as pond substrate

Application

Lava, lava stone, lava substrate, lava granulate or lava mulch are used in many ways:

  • in gardening and landscaping
  • as plant substrate / mineral substrate / culture substrate
  • as an admixture in planters for cacti, bonsai and other plants
  • for aeration and as moisture storage for floors
  • as plant cover (a perfect substitute for bark mulch)
  • as decorative purposes, such as the decoration of flower beds (lava mulch)
  • as road markers
  • as ornamental chippings for the creation of decorative surfaces
  • as filter or base layer
  • in sewage treatment plants as filter material
  • for biological wastewater treatment
  • in pond construction for the attachment of pond and water plants
  • as a filter material for natural and swimming ponds
  • for the greening of flat roofs
  • in sports and playground construction
  • for gravel turf
  • in road construction
  • concrete construction
  • as grit (lava granulate)

Evolution of Lava

Lava is the name for magma that has escaped to the surface in liquid form. Magma is formed when pressure and heat are incredibly high inside the earth. It causes the rock to melt into liquid magma. This molten rock is pressed by high pressure in cavities up to the earth's surface.

The dissolved gases trapped in the magma can then escape through the air. When gases escape, gas bubbles of different sizes can also form in the lava. Lava is, therefore, mostly degassed magma. Therefore lava and magma are chemically different.

The initially hot lava is easily deformable. At the earth's surface, it cools down and becomes stable. Depending on the particular eruption, i.e. how the still liquid lava came to the surface, the lava takes on very different shapes and forms.

When the lava emerges to the surface, it cools down quickly. As a result, the structure usually becomes fine-grained. Solidified lava forms volcanic rock.
